National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The NDIS provides funding support for people with disability. Funding support is divided into three main categories: Core Support, Capacity Building Support, and Capital Support.
Under Capacity Building Support, participants of the NDIS can access allied health services, including speech pathology and occupational therapy.
NDIS Speech Pathology
Speech Pathologists support NDIS participants in a variety of areas to help them build communication skills, social skills, and improve swallowing safety.
Areas that Speech Pathologists support:
- Language disorders (aphasia, developmental language delay, etc.)
- Speech disorders (articulation disorder, phonological disorder, apraxia of speech, etc.)
- Stuttering
- Voice disorders
- Social communication disorders
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Swallowing Difficulties
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Intellectual Disorder (ID)
- Other forms of disorders or disabilities that affect communication and swallowing
NDIS Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists support NDIS participants in a variety of areas to help them improve independent living skills, safety, and quality of life.
Areas that Occupational Therapists support:
- Home modifications
- Functional capacity assessments
- Capacity building
- Assistive technology
- Neurological conditions
- Sensory regulations
